The short version: there are no accounts or forms on this site, we don’t use tracking or advertising cookies, our analytics count visits without identifying you, and we never sell personal data.
Who we are
Local Ledger runs localledger.co.uk, a shortlist of builders in and around Brentwood, Essex, and is responsible for the personal data described here. Contact us at hello@localledger.co.uk.
If you visit the site
Analytics. We use PostHog, hosted in the EU, to count visits. It records the pages you view, when, the site that referred you, your browser and device type, and an approximate location (town and country) worked out from your IP address. When you tap a builder’s phone number or website link, it records which builder. We use this to see how the site is used and to tell listed builders how many times their listing was viewed and tapped — as counts only, never who you are.
This analytics runs without cookies or similar storage on your device, so we can’t recognise you from one visit to the next, and we don’t build a profile of you.
We also use Vercel Analytics, which counts page views in aggregate and doesn’t use cookies. Vercel hosts the site, so it processes technical data such as IP addresses in order to serve pages and keep the service secure.
Cookies
We don’t set cookies for tracking or advertising, and our analytics don’t use cookies. If we ever change that, we’ll update this page first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
If you email us
We keep your email and our reply so we can deal with your message and keep a record of it. We delete it when it’s no longer needed, or sooner if you ask.
Businesses we list
We publish business information from public sources: each firm’s Google listing (name, rating, number of reviews, phone number and website), Companies House records, and the firm’s own website. Our summaries describe what public reviews say, which can include an owner’s first name. We do this to help homeowners find and compare local builders, which is our legitimate interest. We also keep business contact details we find so that we can contact firms about their listing; we don’t share them.

Our legal basis
We rely on legitimate interests: understanding how the site is used and reporting to listed builders, publishing business information that helps homeowners, and replying when you contact us. We keep what we collect to the minimum those purposes need.
Who we share data with
Only the services that run the site for us: PostHog (analytics) and Vercel (hosting and page-view counts), under their data processing terms. Some of Vercel’s processing may take place outside the UK with appropriate safeguards. Listed builders receive counts of views and taps, never personal data about visitors. We don’t sell personal data.
How long we keep it
We keep analytics records only for as long as we need them to produce and compare reports, and emails only as long as needed to deal with them.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of personal data we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or stop using it. Email hello@localledger.co.uk. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

If we change how we handle data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
